The first time I taught English camp here in Thailand, I gave award ribbons to top 10 students. It’s my way of showing them how good they are than the rest of the class. You can see on their faces that they’re indescribably happy. I also observed that every month my school gave out trophies and gifts to the best student in each class. This motivates the students in each class to get better at what they do inside the classroom. Whether you’re giving out academic trophies, spelling bee trophies, sports trophies or even cheerleading trophies, the result is the same- you’re handing out a gift that is better than a pat on the back or a shake of the hand. Awards serve as a feather in anybody’s cap, something that encourages them to do better and work even harder to achieve their goals.
